Smart City : The Upcoming Future Of Urban Development

A Smart City is a urban city that uses technologies, data analysis and IOT ( Internet Of Things) to collect data and improve the life of residents living in it such as improve city management and promote sustainability. By collecting of data city management can improve sectors such as healthcare, transportation, Etc.

Introduction To A Smart City :

A Smart City is urban area that uses high-tech technology and data analysis to improve the life of quality for its citizens. In smart cities digital systems work seamlessly with physical infrastructure to improve city services such as Public transportation, Healthcare, Public safety and Waste management. By implementing digital technology such as:  AI ( Artificial Intelligence ), IOT ( Internet Of Things ) and Data analysis. Smart cities can monitor and respond in real-time by the help of these sensors. For Example : A Person is showing symptoms of a heart attack which the sensors detect and auto call the emergency services near-by in order to save the life of that person.

Smart City Role In Infrastructure :

Smart Cities contribute a lot when it comes to city infrastructure. In a smart city infrastructure is equipped with sensors, advance technology and data analytics. These all technologies help making urban facilities cost-efficient, efficient and sustainable. One of the main feature of smart city is the intelligent traffic system. This system reports real-time traffic monitoring, adaptive and free signals and smart parking solutions for less space and rush hours. In part of infrastructure water and waste management systems also benefit from these technologies. Sensors track water leakages, detect leaks and customizing wastage collection areas, reducing impact of waste pollution on environment. Public safety is another sector where technology plays its role. Sensors installed in whole city monitor and increased detection in emergency cases. These sensors keep the citizens safe.

Smart City Facilities :

Smart cities offer a lot of facilities that can uplift a normal citizen life such as :
  • Intelligent Transport System :
Smart cities uses intelligent transportation systems to cater the traffic and transport related problems. These transport systems make adaptive traffic signals, connection of public transits in order to avoid congestion.
  • Smart Buildings :
Smart buildings are the important part of smart city. Smart buildings are defined as the buildings which are connected with smart things such as sensors. These sensors allow the buildings to conserve energy by switching off lights, fans, cooling, appliances, etc. By doing this building conserves energy without putting risks to its occupants.
  •  Environmental Monitoring :
Environment Change is a real challenge and to tackle these sensors are deployed in smart city which monitor city AQI ( Air Quality Index ), pollution levels and water quality. These data allows the city administrator to keep an eye on its citizens health and allows it to improve it regularly.

Public Safety In Smart Cities :

Public safety is an important aspect when it comes to smart cities and urban development. Many cities increasingly adopt advanced technologies to better its citizens safety. Integration of Smart cities with advance tech such as IOT ( Internet Of Things ), Artificial Intelligence ( AI) and Data analysis. Sensors are connected in every corner of city which also helps in safety of a citizens. With sensors connected to each other in many public sectors they can report real-time data and respond to any emergency.

Smart Cities In Disaster Management :

Smart cities are also exceling in disaster management by using advance technologies. Advance technologies such as: sensors, data analysis, drones and satellite feeds can used to predict and recover from any disaster. Usage of these technologies can help them to identify any environmental hazard such as disaster before they can become a danger to citizens.

Smart Cities Vs Traditional Cities :

Smart cities are very much modern for traditional cities. When it comes to connectivity and infrastructure smart cities have modern technologies such as IOT and sensors which helps them to monitor real-time data. While in traditional cities there is no modern technology they rely on conventional talks. Smart cities conserve energy by using smart grids, sensors and analysis to optimize energy and in traditional cities energy system depends on a
system with less flexibility and no modern technology.
